When you switch to Website Builder and keep your existing domain name, you may need to set up 301 redirects to ensure guests can find your new pages. This helps maintain your search engine ranking and prevents guests from seeing 404 errors.
💡 Important to know:
Redirects only work when using the same domain for both your old and new website.
Set up redirects before switching to your new website to easily check your existing page URLs.
About redirects in Website Builder
Redirects ensure guests and search engines find your new website pages when they use old URLs. For example, if your old photo page was at www.mywebsite.com/photos but is now at www.mywebsite.com/gallery, you can redirect guests to the new page automatically.
➕ Example of when redirects will work:
Old website: www.myhotel.com
New Website Builder site: www.myhotel.com
➕ Example of when redirects will not work:
Old website: www.bluehotel.com
New Website Builder site: www.redhotel.com
Set up redirects for translated pages
If your previous website was translated, you can set up language-specific redirects in Website Builder. For example, redirect www.mywebsite.com/fr/home to the French version of your new homepage in Website Builder.
To add redirects in Website Builder:
In Website Builder, go to Advanced Settings.
Click Redirects.
Click + Add Redirects.
Enter the old page path in Old Page (for example, enter /photos to redirect from www.yourwebsite.com/photos).
Select the New Page from the dropdown list.
Select the page language if needed.
Click Save.
To remove a redirect:
Click Remove next to the redirect.
Click Save.
