Use Website Builder to add Cookiebot, a cookie consent management platform that helps you protect guest privacy and comply with data protection regulations. Cookiebot adds a customisable consent banner to your website and manages visitor consent preferences for cookies and tracking.
Before you start, you'll need:
A Cookiebot account
A Google Tag Manager account
Set up Cookiebot
To set up your Cookiebot account:
Create or log in to your Cookiebot account.
Add your website domain (example: yourdomainname.com.au).
Go to Your scripts tab.
Note your Domain Group ID for later use.
Set up Google Tag Manager
To create your account:
Create or log in to Google Tag Manager.
Select Web as the Target platform.
Enter your account details.
Enter your website domain as the Container name.
Click Create.
Accept the Terms and Conditions.
To add Cookiebot CMP in Google Tag Manager:
In Google Tag Manager, go to Templates > Tag templates > Search gallery.
Search for "Cookiebot CMP".
Click Add to workspace > Add.
Go to Tags > New > Tag configuration.
Select Cookiebot CMP.
Enter your Domain Group ID from Cookiebot.
Choose Consent initialization - All pages as your trigger.
Name your tag "Cookiebot".
Click Save.
To add consent checks In Google Tag Manager:
In Google Tag Manager, go to Tags > New > Trigger Configuration.
Add Custom event as the Trigger Type.
Enter "cookie_consent_update" as the Event Name.
Select All custom events.
Update existing tags with your new trigger.
Add to Website Builder
Now that you've set up both Cookiebot and Google Tag Manager, you'll need to connect them to your Website Builder. This involves adding the Google Tag Manager code to your website and creating a cookie declaration page.
To set up Google Tag Manager as a widget:
In Google Tag Manager, follow the instructions to install Google Tag Manager on a webpage.
Copy the provided code.
In Website Builder, go to Advanced settings > Third-party widget.
Paste the code.
Save your changes.
⚠️ Important for GDPR compliance:
Your Third-party widget page should only contain the Google Tag Manager code
Create custom tags in Google Tag Manager for any additional scripts
To add the Cookie declaration page:
In Website Builder, go to Website pages.
Create a new "Cookie Declaration" page.
Click the ellipsis button (three dots button) > Hide to remove it from navigation.
Add an HTML section.
Add your Cookiebot code (replace DOMAIN_GROUP_ID with your ID).
Save the page.
To add the declaration to your footer:
Go to Manage themes > Footer.
Click the add (+) button in a footer section.
Select your Cookie Declaration page.
Save your changes.
Publish your changes
In Google Tag Manager:
Click Submit.
Select Publish and create version.
Name your version (example: "Added Cookiebot").
Click Publish.
In Website Builder:
Click Publish changes.
Wait a few minutes.
Check your website - new visitors should see the cookie consent banner.
